The Frontier Learning Lab (FLL) is Montana Digital Academy’s new statewide learning lab for cutting-edge learning tools—a place where teachers and students can explore artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, and other emerging tech without leaving Big Sky Country. Anchored in the values of expanded access, strong privacy, and solid learning science, the Lab serves as a central hub that curates tools, surfaces best practices, and sparks practical innovation in every corner of the state, from bustling city schools to the most remote one-room classrooms.
What does that look like on the ground? Picture an always-on AI Help Desk for educators, stackable workshops that fit busy schedules, pop-up VR labs that roll into rural communities, and co-designed pilot projects that let local teams refine ideas before scaling them. By weaving these supports together, FLL helps teachers reclaim time, students unlock new pathways, and entire school systems share what works, so the next wave of technology lifts everyone, not just a lucky few.
The FLL team is currently working to implement our vision of this fast-moving project. To start, we are happy to start with offering our AI help desk for teachers, Field Notes Substack, and our early professional learning events! Find out more below!
